The PIO may appoint a supporting staff to assist in the public information <br /> functions and ensure the capability of extended operations. Supporting <br /> functions may include: <br /> 1. Rumor Control/Public Inquiry <br /> 2. Distribution of emergency information, including broadcast and printed <br /> materials, and monitoring the media releases for accuracy, and <br /> 3. Coordination of emergency public information supplies and equipment <br /> requirements as well as volunteer support staff. <br /> D. The Public Information Officer at the Nebraska Emergency Management <br /> Agency, in a disaster situation, has the following responsibilities: <br /> 1. Coordinates with and supports the Governor's Office, <br /> 2. Coordinates with and supports the local government's PIOs, <br /> 3. Develops and releases information concerning the state's involvement <br /> and/or activities, and <br /> 4. Monitors the media for accuracy of information released. <br /> E The federal agency's PIO, when federal support is activated, will have the <br /> following responsibilities: <br /> 1. Coordinates with and supports the state and local governments PIO, <br /> 2. Releases information concerning the federal government's involvement <br /> and/or activities. <br /> F. Volunteer and private organization PIOs should coordinate with the local <br /> Public Information Officer and release information concerning their own <br /> efforts. <br /> V. CONCEPT of OPERATIONS <br /> A. Coordination <br /> 1. The public information program requires a coordinated flow of <br /> information from all levels of government and private agencies through a <br /> central release point.
