Lancaster called for public participation and no one responded. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to close the public hearing. Bredthauer, <br /> Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Peterson, Quandt and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. <br /> Motion carried. <br /> 6B) DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION APPROVING RESOLUTION FOR ELECTION OF <br /> COUNTY SURVEYOR— Richardson stated she appreciates Scott he was hired by the board <br /> and then was elected. If the position wasn't elected there could be someone hired that is out of <br /> the county. Sometimes name recognition or with money you may not end up with the most <br /> qualified person and if the person was hired they could hire the most qualified person. . <br /> Peterson noted the experience with the election commissioner he thinks it should be elected <br /> what we do no works. Some things on the ballot a person or group that wants to change things <br /> can spend dollars and have an impact on how the vote turns out and the public may not be <br /> informed <br /> Quandt noted that now they are saying the elections commissioner should be elected next will <br /> they have to elect the veterans service officer next? <br /> Quandt made a motion and Hurst seconded to approve Resolution 2020-001 to retain the <br /> county surveyor as an elected position. <br /> Lancaster stated that she agrees they have to be qualified to put their stamp on documents they <br /> have to have certifications. <br /> Hartman stated he thinks this is a mistake as elected. <br /> Scott stated he has a bachelors decree in order to be licensed you have to have at least a 2 <br /> year degree and 8 years of experience to be a licensed land surveyor and another 2 years <br /> working under a surveyor. Then you have to pass the exam and then another 4 years of <br /> experience. <br /> Bredthauer ask Scott if there are many that come out of school for this position. A lot of people <br /> are retiring and we have to retain the position. <br /> The vote on the motion was taken. Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Peterson, Quandt <br /> and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Scott will be on the ballot in 2 year. <br /> 7 <br />
