15 CONSIDERATION OF SETTING BID OPENING OF 2020 ROAD GRAVEL AT 9:30 A.M.
TUESDAY DECEMBER 17, 2019 WITH BIDS DUE DECEMBER 16, 2019 AT 5:00 P.M.
Mr. Riehle distributed information to the board members regarding the notice to gravel
contractors. He is adjusting the amounts and requesting to change the Camp Augustine
maintenance yard to Old Potash Highway east of Alda Road and spread some of the gravel.
He is asking for pit prices plus on-call prices for road gravel applied to county roads by each
township in Hall County. He noted the following.
Stockpile A
Hall County Maintenance yard 2,800 tons
Stockpile B
Old Potash Highway east of Alda Road 3,800 tons
Stockpile C
Wood River Maintenance Yard 8,300 tons
Stockpile D
Cairo maintenance Yard 6,100 tons
Stockpile E
Alda maintenance Yard 4,200 tons
Pit gravel hauled by County 4,100 tons
Gravel hauled and spread by contractor 3,900 tons
TOTAL 33,700 ton
Bredthauer ask how many tons are in a truck, there are 14 to 5 tons or a little over 10 cubic
yards. She also ask about the size of some of the gravel stockpiles and that could be a safety
issue. She also ask about the grade of the gravel and Steve stated that it is in the
specifications.
Steve stated that they also used to go out and stake for the gravel but with the consistent truck
speed they do not do that now so it saves time and now they also haul a full 10 tons instead of 8
tons.
Richardson made a motion and Quandt seconded to set the bid opening for the gravel for
December 17, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. with bids due December 16, 20119 at 5:00 p.m.
Josh Vollmer with Mid Nebraska stated he discussed this with Mr. Riehle and the gravel stock
piles are good winter work for them, they are seasonal. There will be some scheduling issues to
haul the gravel direct but it makes sense especially getting rid of Camp Augustine they can go
directly to the pit.
Quandt ask if the graders follow the truck to spread the gravel and Steve stated they do not
have to because they use tailgate spreaders.
Lancaster stated she appreciates the discussion.
5
