He hauls 320,000,000 pound of feed and they <br /> truck cattle in and out. He has tried to be a good neighbor and has had conversation with the <br /> truck drivers regarding the use of engine brakes. He has security cameras and time stamps <br /> and weighs the trucks. He tries to be responsible to the public. There are mechanical benefits <br /> to the engine brakes is it appropriate to limit the use there are a lot of people that are <br /> responsible but it will be hard to enforce. <br /> Lancaster stated she appreciates Mr. Dobesh and Mr. Baxter addressing the issue. <br /> Hartman expressed concern you ca only catch them if you follow the truck there are enough <br /> regulations. <br /> Bredthauer stated she did have an individual contact her and it is a quality of life issue. There <br /> are residential areas that need to be monitored. <br /> Peterson stated it makes sense to limit it to a smaller area this is the trucking industry ad some <br /> people like the noise and it appears that violations are occurring with people hauling cattle to <br /> JBS. He questioned if it could be limited to that area. <br /> Quandt stated it could be limited to a smaller area. Discussion was held and Lancaster ask if the <br /> board would like to address this in 2 weeks. <br /> Bredthauer expressed concern that if you make the 2 mile area smaller you would lose Capital <br /> Avenue and Gunbarrel Road. There isn't a designated truck route and they need to have <br /> something and there are some road that we do not have jurisdiction on anyway. <br /> Greg Baxter expressed concern on the east west truck traffic and noted that there is now a <br /> roundabout on North Road that has disrupted the truck traffic along with the closings on <br /> Engleman and Airport Roads. He expressed concern that it will be difficult to enforce. <br /> Hurst sated he called the city attorney regarding engine brakes and they have not prosecuted a <br /> case and they have 80 officers. Representatives from law enforcement did attend the meetings <br /> and discussion was held that the fine is not sufficient. <br /> Richardson stated she represents the area around Gunbarrel Road and she talked to some and <br /> they did not have concerns the calls she had were from another area. <br /> Hartman stated this has been discussed an hour they need to make a decision. . <br /> Quandt noted that "Grow Grand Island" had concerns.
