11. APPOINTMENT OF BOARD MEMBERS TO SMART SOIL 90 TRIAL ASSESSMENT - <br /> Lancaster appointed Butch Hurst, Karen Bredthauer and Ron Peterson to serve on the Smart <br /> Soil committee. <br /> 12 B) UPDATE ON PROPOSAL FROM CMBA REGARDING THE FIRE SUPPRESSION <br /> SYSTEM AT THE COURTHOUSE - Mr. Humphrey stated that Mr. Kissler is updating the fire <br /> suppression system proposal. He would like to get an engineer's opinion regarding the project. <br /> They have a meeting scheduled for 2:00 p.m. today to look at the building. <br /> C) DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION ON CONCRETE CUTTING FOR SIDEWALKS — Loran <br /> stated that the sidewalks around the building hare different levels and create trip hazards they <br /> are looking at a less expensive way to make the same level. There is a company that can <br /> shave off the concrete rather than removing it and running new concrete. He would like to see <br /> how it works but there is also a concern on the freezing and thawing during the winter. He has <br /> numbers on the sidewalks and is asking permission to try this process to see how it works. The <br /> proposal was around $2,000.00 to level some of the areas. <br /> Discussion was held and Peterson suggested picking out 3 or 4 sites to see if it works. <br /> Bredthauer suggested filling the cracks so the water cannot get under the concrete. <br /> Bredthauer made a motion and Quandt seconded to do the concrete cutting on a minimal <br /> number of sites on a trial basis. Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson and <br /> Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> D) DISCUSSION POSSIBLE ACTION HIRING AN ARCHITECT FOR STEP REPLACEMENT <br /> AT THE FEDERAL BUILDING — Loren stated that the front steps at the Federal Building are <br /> deteriorating and he has talked to Dena Sanford regarding the replacement. He will need to <br /> send a letter requesting to put in different steps and in order to do that he will have to hire an <br /> engineer to design the layout of the steps. There will also have to be a number of railings that <br /> will need to be replaced. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to hire Cannon Moss and Brygger to design <br /> the replacement steps at the Federal Building. Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, <br /> Peterson and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Held a 5-minute break. <br /> Returned to session <br /> 8.10:30 A.M. BID OPENING FOR HALL COUNTY ASPHALTIC CONCRETE RESURFACING <br /> C40(469) —Quandt made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to open the bids.
