7. 9:35 SHARON HUEFTLE SOUTH CENTRAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT - Sharon Hueftle <br /> with South Central Economic Development District presented handouts to the board members. <br /> The economic development districts were established by the legislature and are recognized by <br /> the Federal Government. There are 8 active districts in Nebraska and is a 501/3C status. The <br /> South Central is a 13 county district. She reviewed the staff members and noted some of the <br /> programs they offer to communities at no cost. She noted housing projects in St. Paul and <br /> Central City. Last year they did a Comprehensive Economic study and partnered with UNK to <br /> secure the funding. She showed a power point presentation to the board members. There is <br /> information on line and they are focusing on housing. She noted that the workforce is a big <br /> issue and retaining them. She noted a "Post Career Expo that they held. <br /> The board thanked her for the presentation. <br /> 8.10:00 A.M. EXECUTIVE SESSION ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT REGARDING <br /> NEGOTIATIONS - Quandt made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to go into executive <br /> session. There are two reasons for an executive session to protect the public interest or to <br /> prevent needless harm or injury to an individual. Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, <br /> Quandt, Peterson and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 9:40 a.m. executive session <br /> 10:19 a.m. Peterson made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to go out of executive session. <br /> Lancaster stated that no other subjects were discussed no votes were taken and no action was <br /> taken. Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, Lancaster, Quandt, Peterson and Richardson all voted yes <br /> and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 10. DISCUSSION & INFORMATION FROM WOOD RIVER RESIDENTS REGARDING <br /> HUMANE SOCIETY — Becky King, 7190 South Nebraska Highway#11 Wood River stated she <br /> wanted to bring to light information regarding information that was not correct during the March <br /> 14 flood in Wood River. There was discussion regarding the evacuation and the pet care and <br /> they tried to contact the Humane Society and the person that answered the phone stated they <br /> did not do that. So Ms. King contacted other rescue people in Hastings and they provided <br /> supplies and also the rescue from Lincoln helped. It was handled by 3:00 p.m. she noted that <br /> the Humane Society has a trailer with supplies but they were told that the society does not do <br /> that. <br /> She distributed information to the board members and an additional letter. <br /> Richardson as if she is associated with rescue companies and Ms. King stated that she is. <br /> Richardson passed out information. Richardson also had a letter from Jill Hornady that she <br /> read. She noted there has been a lot of drama at the Humane Society and a number of people <br /> have left but it is time to move forward in a positive fashion. They need to work parallel the <br /> mission is the same and they need to move forward. Richardson stated she will talk to Jon <br /> Rosenlund about an emergency plan. <br /> Peterson stated this has already happened and he suggested that there be conversations <br /> between the communities and move forward they cannot change what happened. <br /> 4 <br />
