Steve noted that on February 19 there was
discussion regarding the Weed and Highway Departments. The Board ask Public Works and
Weed Departments to work together and come up with a plan for the Weed Authority to free up
some space so Public Works could move some equipment.
The scope of work performed by the Weed Department has changed and they have equipment
that can be considered surplus so this would open up space for others.
Riehle stated that the Public Works building was built in 1948 and they are looking for ways to
accommodate current and future needs. One way to do that would be to move some
equipment or operations to the Weed Building. The Weed Department could free up space in
the west bay of the building for them to use. It is separate from the shop and there is a separate
entrance. With this move it could take care of the Public Works ventilation and air handling
issues.
The Weed Board is working on a recommendation of a list of surplus equipment. They would
declare it surplus and then the County Board would consider approval of the list of surplus
equipment. Once the Weed Department equipment is moved Public Works could possibly start
moving July 1st
Mr. Schultz stated the Weed Board met yesterday and they did declare 26 items as surplus
property so this will free up the west bay. It is great to work with the Road Department and give
them some space. He will come back in 2 to 4 weeks and proceed with putting the surplus up
for auction. He will look at Big Iron or Wieck's Auction in the fall. He could be out by July 1st
and Road Department would have time to set it up. This bay has its own entrance and they will
work out the details on the utilities. This will work well for both departments.
Lancaster stated this will work well for the space needs.
5
