10 PUBLIC WORKS
10 D) DISCUSSION & CONSIDERATION OF APPROVAL TO PURCHASE CRAFCO CRACK
ROUTER FROM LOGAN CONTRACTOR'S SUPPLY USING STATE OF NEBRASKA
CONTRACT 14429 OC — Mr. Riehle state they have 2 crack routers that they use to seal the
cracks on the asphalt because this extends the life of the paving. They have 2 units one is a
2002 from a state bid. The state bid price is under $9,400.00. Discussion was held if they
share with another county.
Hartman ask Mr. Riehle to check with other counties to see if they could share the equipment.
Steve stated that Merrick County does not seal their roads and they ask Hall County to do a
section of Gunbarrel Road. Howard County dos not have asphalt roads and
Buffalo County does not seal their roads. He can check with Adams County to see if they do
any sealing and they share equipment with Adams County.
Bredthauer noted they have one unit from the state bid. Steve stated they did have 3 but now
one died. If they last 15 years it is about $600.00 a year. The 2002 crack router is older and may
need repair and needs to be replaced. They have funds in the budget to purchase this unit.
When they are working on this project he likes to have 2 units running at the same when the
weather is good. He would like to use the state bid contract#14429OC to purchase the crack
sealer.
Richardson made a motion and Peterson seconded to approve the purchase of the crack router
from Logan Contractor's Supply from the state bid.
Lancaster ask if there was any objection to check on the age of the equipment and she ask how
much it is used. It is more convenient to own our own. How long to get one in Steve said they
have not talked to the vendor about that. Steve stated this piece of equipment is different than a
loader they do not track the hours. It cannot be used when it is wet or cold it has to be dry
weather.
The vote on the motion was taken. Bredthauer, Hurst, Peterson and Richardson voted yes and
Hartman Lancaster and Quandt voted no. Motion carried.
10 E) PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE — Mr. Riehle stated that the application for the tire grant was
submitted.
Traffic count he provided the board with a couple of handouts. He set out 4 counters out the
one on 60th road the battery went dead, the Locust Street had 136 vehicles a day and Stolley
Park was an average of 70 a day. He will continue to take counts and replace the battery on
60th Road and also wait for warmer weather.
Talked to city about the sections on the railroad tracks more traffic on Engleman is closed and it
was higher Quandt noted that North Road is often closed because of the trains.
Skid steer purchase or lease there would be an agreement and he is getting more information it
was pulled off and will be addressed on the March 5th meeting. They have 3 leased units and
lease coming to an end. They are also looking at the different track types, the CAT unit has a
flexible track and this could be higher maintenance. He will bring information to the next
meeting.
8
