HALL COUNTY BOARD OF EQUALIZATION MEETING JULY 11, 2017
9:05 a.m. Arnold made a motion and Richardson seconded to go into a Board of
Equalization meeting.
ROLL CALL VOTE β Present on roll call vote were Scott Arnold, Karen Bredthauer,
Pamela Lancaster, Douglas Lanfear, Gary Quandt, Jane Richardson and Steve
Schuppan. Also present were County Attorney Jack Zitterkopf, Stacey Ruzicka and
County Assessor Jan Pelland.
NOTICE OF OPEN MEETING LAW β Chairman Lancaster read the notice of the open
meeting law.
VERIFY AFFIDAVIT OF PUBLICATION βThe affidavit of publication was received.
MINUTES β Quandt made a motion and Arnold seconded to approve the minutes of the
June 27, 2017 meeting. Arnold, Bredthauer, Lancaster, Lanfear, Quandt, Richardson
and Schuppan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried.
PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - Chairman Lancaster called for public participation and no
one responded.
9:10 Held a Break for County Assessor to come down.
Stacey Ruzicka stated that she has an issue with the fax machine in her office. Before
she left she requested to have Eakes come in and repair her machine and she received
a bill for the repair, but it was not repaired and all of the programed numbers were
erased. She is asking to just send out all of the agenda information by e mail instead of
by fax and just dispose of the fax machine since it is not working. E mail is more
secure. If it is necessary to send a fax the county clerk has a machine and there are
other machines in the building. The board members all agreed to dispose of the fax
machine.
9:20 a.m. recessed the Board of Equalization meeting.
9:22 a.m. Returned to Board of Equalization meeting.
4.9:15 A.M. HEARING FOR BETHPHAGE - Quandt made a motion and Richardson
seconded to open the hearing for Bethphage regarding the exemption application.
Arnold, Bredthauer, Lancaster, Lanfear, Quandt, Richardson and Schuppan all voted
yes and none voted no. Motion carried.
County Assessor Jan Pelland stated that this is located at 1327 Sherman Place and
they applied for an exemption in February but it is now vacant and for sale so the
property would no long qualify for an exemption. So the exemption needs to be
removed before the levy date cut off.
