COUNTY ASSESSOR -APPEAL ON PERSONAL PROPERTY PENALTY FOR PACIFIC <br /> WESTERN EQUIPMENT FINANCE —County Assessor Jan Pelland stated this is an appeal on <br /> the personal property tax penalty for Pacific Western Equipment. She read the letter they <br /> submitted. The form was printed on April 29`h and they had a copy of the personal property <br /> schedule but it was not received by the assessor's office and they still have not received it. She <br /> has assessed the 10% penalty. The penalty would be $1,015.00. If the paperwork is received <br /> they have to go by the post mark to determine if there should be a penalty. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Ziola seconded to uphold the 10% penalty. Chairman Lancaster <br /> called for discussion. Mr. Schuppan stated that this situation happened to him and he had to <br /> pay the penalty. <br /> Arnold questioned if the state statute allows any way the board can remove a penalty. Ms. <br /> Pelland stated that the board has no authority to remove a penalty but it allows the taxpayer to <br /> appeal. Pelland stated that they prepare the personal property tax schedules and mail them to <br /> the property owner the first week in January and they are to be returned before May 151 <br /> The vote on the motion to uphold the penalty was taken. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, <br /> Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> TAX CORRECTION NOTICES County Assessor Jan Pelland presented tax correction notices <br /> #4658 to#4664 requesting the county board to authorize the chair to initial. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Ziola seconded to authorize the chair to initial tax correction notices <br /> #4658 to#4664. <br /> Lancaster asked Ms. Pelland to explain tax corrections notices. She stated that a correction <br /> may be written if someone has added property or it was omitted. The state reviews these <br /> applications and they may send notice on property that should have been taxable it could also <br /> be accelerated taxes on a mobile home. <br /> The vote on the motion to approve the tax correction notices was taken. Arnold, Lancaster, <br /> McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no.
