Arnold, Jeffries, Lancaster, Purdy Quandt, Rye and Wagoner all <br /> voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 58 STATUS OF THE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT APPLICATION FOR NEBRASKA <br /> CLEAN DIESEL GRANT PROGRAM THROUGH THE AMERICAN RECOVERY AND <br /> REINVESTMENT ACT OF 2009— County Surveyor Casey Sherlock received a letter <br /> regarding his application. ARRA award dollars to Nebraska and his application was <br /> accepted. He proposed to replace two dump trucks and received $39,900.00 from the <br /> grant. The trade in value of the trucks would have been $12,000.00. They have to <br /> destroy the engines by drilling holes in them and the frame has to be cut in two pieces. <br /> They will remove all of the usable parts like the tires hoist and the hydraulic pumps then <br /> offer the other parts to a salvage yard. They will receive a check for $35,910.00 and <br /> once they send a certificate of destruction they will receive the additional 10%. The <br /> board thanked Mr. Sherlock for his efforts. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY— REPORT ON PURCHASES — Deputy County Attorney Jack <br /> Zitterkopf stated that it is a good policy to bring large purchases to the County Board and <br /> he would encourage all officials to do so. <br /> The department heads, like the building and grounds director, are appointed by the <br /> board and at some time common sense has to come into place. As the opinion states <br /> on the elected officials they can spend money but there is not the same structure for <br /> appointed individuals. At that point the board is their boss he would hope that in the <br /> hiring process that you have hired responsible individuals and hope that those <br /> 3 <br />
