lotus <br /> DEPUTY COUNTY ATTORNEY II R`SX^`\e <br /> NATURE OF WORK <br /> This is responsible professional legal work as an attorney on the County Attorney's legal staff. <br /> Work may involve independent responsibility for the preparation and conduct of criminal and <br /> civil cases. Employees may have responsibility for any one of the following: recognizing and <br /> researching legal issues, conducting investigations, interviewing witnesses, advising <br /> administrative officials and employees on legal questions and preparing legal opinions, trying <br /> quasi-criminal traffic cases and other offenses of felony and misdemeanor status, as well as <br /> Mental Health Board proceedings, and preparing legal work involve d in land acquisition. Work <br /> is distinguished from that of a lower level attorney by much greater independence of action. <br /> General supervision is received from department head, although very little check is made on the <br /> details of operation. Work will involve mentoring subordinate employees. Supervision may be <br /> exercised over subordinate employees. <br /> EXAMPLES OF WORK <br /> Prepares complex legal research; prepares ordinances, resolutions, contracts, leases, and <br /> memoranda for study and consideration by the department head or other county officials. <br /> Prepares brief for presentation to court in suits involving the County. <br /> Performing coroner duties as directed and being `on-call' 24 hours a day for a one week period <br /> as part of the regular on-call rotation in the County Attorney's office. <br /> Prepares and prosecutes misdemeanor and felony cases. <br /> Prepares and prosecutes cases in County and higher courts. <br /> Conducts investigations and researches facts of the case as warranted; interviews and prepares <br /> expert and other witnesses for preliminary hearing, pre-trial hearings and trials. <br /> Advises departmental officials and employees on legal questions and prepares legal opinions. <br /> Gathers facts, checks investigation reports, reviews files an answers correspondence. <br /> Prepares assigned cases for trial, takes depositions, prepares briefs and pleadings, supervises <br /> supplemental investigations, and tries cases. <br /> Participates in decision to seek review of adverse decision through appellate courts. <br /> Participates in mandatory continuing legal education of 20 hours per year and attends education <br /> training workshops and seminars as necessary. <br />
