Hall County Veterans Service Committee
September 13, 2018
To The Hall County Board of Supervisors
Please refer to the attached letter which is yet another example of the ongoing disrespect, harassment
and attempt to intimidate the Hall County Veteran Service Office and Hall County Veterans' Service
Officer by some members of the Hall County Board of Supervisors.
Regardless if the issue is as small as damaged carpet replacement or a water cooler, or issues showing
disrespect for the Hall County Veterans such as the refusal to fly a MIA/POW flag or disallowing the
veterans a designated waiting area, there are certain members of the Hall County Board of Supervisors
that continue to bring up trivial issues. They continue to take these trivial issues and turn them into
nightmares. Now the Veterans Service Office is being threatened with moving of their office when in
fact the office renovation years ago was less costly to Hall County taxpayers than most any other
renovations. In addition the Veterans Service Office serves multiple other counties veterans and has
been approached to include more counties when their timing is right.
Historically the Veterans Service Office has enjoyed a very good and productive working relationship
with the Hall County Board Supervisors. To have recently had one of the supervisors cause such a
disruption in the Veterans Service Office is disheartening.
This is obviously escalating out of control and seriously interrupts the operations of the office and
service to veterans. It is time to STOP this ridiculous behavior and allow the Veterans Service Office and
Officer to do what they do so well, care for our Veteran's needs. Please take the appropriate steps to
remedy these circumstances.
Included with this letter is the Nebraska Association of County Officials 1992 opinion regarding the joint
status of the Veteran Service Committee and the County Board, with regard to the Veterans Service
Officer.
Respectfully,
a
Mike Ponte, Chairman
Hall County Veterans Service Committee
