Lancaster stated she also agrees and would like to find out if they need less space. She <br /> questioned if we are being held to different standards. She would also like to see the needs in <br /> the space study. <br /> Schuppan stated the county needs to respond with a letter to determine the space and <br /> reference the state statute. <br /> Arnold made a motion and Schuppan seconded to authorize the Chair and the County Attorney <br /> to send a letter to DHHS and sign it addressing their concerns. Arnold, Bredthauer, Lancaster, <br /> Lanfear, Quandt Richardson and Schuppan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Lancaster stated that there is not a lot of time left to discuss how they are going to address Mr. <br /> Zitterkopfs replacement. Should they appoint an interim and then that person could move <br /> forward in the primary election. Then the people could decide in the elections. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf stated that this is not on the agenda so they cannot take any action but it needs to <br /> be considered in 2 weeks. <br /> 10. FACILITIES - RICHARDSON <br /> DAN PLACZEK DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION CONCERNING THE GEORGE <br /> WASHINGTON STATUE AT THE COURTHOUSE — Mr. Dan Placzek was present and this is a <br /> follow up from the last meeting regarding the George Washington statue he distributed pictures <br /> of the proposed location and they are suggesting it could be in the front and center of the <br /> entrance. I will not hinder wheel chairs or emergency personal access to the building. He also <br /> noted the location of the plaque. He is asking for permission to complete the project and place <br /> the statue and the plaque. <br /> Lanfear made a motion and Arnold seconded to authorize the completion of the project and <br /> place the statute and the plaque. Arnold, Bredthauer, Lancaster, Lanfear, Quandt Richardson <br /> and Schuppan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Mr. Placzek stated he has known Mr. Zitterkopf for 30 years and the County has been lucky to <br /> have him. <br /> 7. UPDATE FROM CONGRESSMAN ADRIAN SMITH —Jared Reimers with Congressman <br /> Adrian Smith office was present. He noted that Congressman Smith is on the ways and means <br /> committee and a sub committee for human resources. He is also on the house administration <br /> committee that is responsible for the day to day operations of the house itself. The human <br /> resources committee addresses welfare security standards and the McFee funding. It has been <br /> approved to continue this funding that supports the Nebraska Children's and Family foundation. <br /> He has also completed a number of tours in the state. They have heard legislation to protect <br /> the trade agreements also. He continues to work on opportunities for Nebraskans. The board <br /> noted that Congressman Smith is always receptive to our needs and questions. Quandt also <br /> thanked him for taking time to meet the hero flights when they are in Washington. He also <br /> noted that he is working with Ms. Lancaster regarding the meals for the elderly. <br /> 22. PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE ON STRUCTURAL REPAIRS ON HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT <br /> BUILDING —Steve Riehle was present and stated that last week they were repairing a snow <br /> plow assembly using chain hoist and the roof truss support broke. He showed pictures of the <br /> damage. He showed the floor plan from 1948 and noted that Dan Hostler did the plans for the <br /> shop area. They inspected the trusses to make sure that it was safe and they have a repair <br /> 5 <br />
