After the next census it may determine if Hall County is over the 60,000. Bredthauer noted that
Buffalo County lobbied for legislation that will take effect in 2020. At that time the county could
hold a public hearing to determine if they have the surveyor or engineer as the highway
superintendent.
The salaries for the positions in 2018 could be a wash the surveyor would receive the salary set
by the resolution and the highway superintendent pay could go to the engineer and then in 2019
there would be a new resolution.
Bredthauer question if the 2019 salaries are in the current array and if the Additional $14,000.00
is the correct amount.
Stacey stated the county engineer salary is above the array there was not information for a
salary for an engineer.
Schuppan questioned how long the Board has to address the resolution for the elected officials
they need to know the exact date and Stacey check and the board has until January 15, 2018 to
change the resolution.
Discussion was held on appointing Steve Riehle as Casey's replacement. The salary for the
county surveyor is set for 2018 and discussion was held if the duties of the highway
superintendent were moved to the engineer if there would be a cut in pay. Stacey stated that
there would not be a cut the current salary for 2018 is $76,573.40 and for 2019 it is $93,000.00
with the 2% increases.
Lancaster noted the board would have to find a county that would have GIS training
surve or Y g
and that would be part of the job. The county engineer position pay is higher that the salary
survey and there are also other positions in other department that are higher.
Mr. Zitterkopf noted that the 2013 Resolution set the 2018 salary for the county surveyor at
$76,573.44 and then in 2016 they passed the Resolution to add $14,446.00 to the surveyor
salary for the highway superintendent salary with the 25 cola increases. Now the county
engineer would receive the $15,040.00 additional for the highway superintendent job. He stated
the resolution will need to be changed.
Bredthauer noted that LB 250 will change the surveyor and highway superintendent position.
The county could do so by holding a public hearing. The hearing has to be held in January.
Lancaster noted that the county surveyor would need GIS and CAD training.
Mr. Zitterkopf stated that the next elected surveyor has to be a license surveyor. Most new
surveyors will be interested in the GIS and CAD training.
Lancaster ask if the board is satisfied with the process for the replacement of the county
surveyor
Schuppan noted the county engineer makes about $105,000.00 and the $15,000.00 for the
highway superintendent position would be added to his salary and that would still leave over
$70,000.00 for the surveyor.
8
