He noted that last year there was a 20/% increase and the maximum cost for single was
$601.03 and for family it was $1,456.63. There are no benefit changes or contract changes.
They are recommending a 25% increase with Single at $751.29 and Family at $1,820.79
This represents the claim experience this year. There was a lot of discussion and he noted
lines 16 and 17 where the county assumes risk on certain cases there were 4 participants with a
total risk of$1,780,000. This year it has been reduced down to $450,000 there are actually 600
people covered by the plan. When the reinsurance contract went to the market out of 20
companies there were on 2 that responded. One was competitive but the lasers were high. So
they are recommending the renewal with the 25% increase.
Matt stated that there was discussion to raise the specific attachment to $75,000 and if they did
that they might see $120,000 in premium savings. He noted the aggregating specific of
$100,000. The county also assumes an additional $100,000 on 1 or more claims. They need to
look at this year after year and if they see a specific trend move it up to the next level. Inflation
also affects this aggregating specific. This can also be offset by a large claim. The specific
attachment of$60,000 was also discussed by the committee. Normally you will have 7 or more
cases that will hit the $60,000. This will be watched going forward.
The 25% is a big increase but it is the best option for this year. Matt stated that we have bucked
the trend for many years and the premiums are still less than the NACO plan.
Stacey noted that at the budget meeting tomorrow they will discuss this more.
Schuppan made a motion and Richardson seconded to move forward with the renewal with
Berkley.
