9:05 a.m. Held a Board of Equalization meeting.
9:27 a.m. Returned to the regular meeting.
12. DISCUSS &APPROVE PURCHASE OF A 2011 FORD CROWN VICTORIA—Quandt
stated that during the budget meetings there was discussion to purchase a different vehicle for
the County Assessor. Pelland has stated that the red car needs to be replaced and the
Durango had a lot of mechanical repairs. Quandt stated that he noticed that the sheriff had
purchased new cars and check to see if there were vehicles that could be used by the
Assessor's office. Bryan stated that there were 2 a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria and 2013 Ford.
They each could be purchased for less than $5,000.00. Quandt noted that anything above
%5,000.00 there would have to be informal bids.
Schuppan noted that Casey and Jan had looked at some vehicles off of the federal surplus site.
pp Y p
He expressed concern that they need a decent car and asked that since Jan was not here if
they could delay this. He also stated that they had talked about a 4 wheel drive vehicle because
they are out in all weather and on rural roads.
Richardson also stated that Jan had requested a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
Arnold stated that he knows that the Ford Durango has a lot of problems. Discussion was held
that even if they are purchase off of federal surplus they could have problems.
Arnold expressed concern that the Dodge Durango has problems and Jan has had a lot of
repair bills.
Schuppan stated that buying an old sheriff vehicle is buying more problems.
Richardson expressed concern that the Crown Victoria is older but discussion was held that the
2013 Ford has the interior torn out.
Quandt stated the Assessor needs some vehicles that are in good shape.
Lancaster stated that Jan wants to leave her department in good shape but the vehicles off of
the state bid may be too expensive. They looked at 2 4/wheel drive vehicles at a total of
$30,000.00.
Quandt made a motion and Lanfear seconded to purchase the 2011 Ford Crown Victoria for
$4,299.00.
Bredthauer ask if the county sheriff have maintenance schedules and if they are able to get the
maintenance schedules on them and they do not have them.
Casey stated that they looked for federal surplus vehicles and they only had 2 2013 vehicles
and they would be able to get the vehicles for about $30,000.00 for the two. They usually have
about 70,000 on them and there is a 30 or 60 day money back guarantee so if there was
something wrong you could take them back. The sheriff's vehicles are maintained by public
works but he did not talk to his shop foreman on these two to see if they are mechanically
sound. Those vehicles are well used.
3
