7. INTERVIEWS FOR WEED BOARD VACANCY -The board received the following two <br /> applications. <br /> Chris Riha, 3560 Hillside Drive, Grand Island, NE —Mr. Riha stated that he would like to <br /> formally apply for the position on the Weed Board. He was born in David City, Nebraska has an <br /> agricultural and management background. He has an agribusiness degree. He is currently <br /> employed by Viaero Wireless in Nebraska and Kansas and acquires telecommunication sites for <br /> the wireless network. <br /> Dennis Wells, 4775 N 130th Rd, Cairo, NE stated he wanted to submit his application for the Hall <br /> County Weed Board. He is originally from Lexington Nebraska where he worked on the family <br /> farm. His wife works for United Nebraska Bank. He hauls cattle and fuel in the area and <br /> currently lives on a small acreage outside of Cairo and owns pasture in another county. He <br /> delivers fuels for a local coop and that allows him to see a great deal of the country as he is <br /> driving. He is interested in local government and would like to have the board consider his <br /> application. <br /> DISCUSS AND TAKE ACTION ON APPOINTMENT TO WEED BOARD - Discussion was held <br /> on how to proceed. Mr. Schuppan stated that the candidate has to live outside of the city limits <br /> and it would be an advantage to have someone further west for better coverage of the county. <br /> They are both excellent candidates. <br /> Arnold made a motion and Lanfear seconded to appoint Dennis Wells to the Hall County Weed <br /> Board. <br /> Karen asked if he has a chemical card and it is not necessary for the weed board members to <br /> have one. <br /> Stacey stated that this appointment is for the 4 year term that just started in January and once <br /> the appointment is made he will need to be sworn into office. The next weed board meeting is <br /> February 6, 2017. The board ask the applicants if they would run for office once this term is <br /> over and Mr. Riha and Mr. Wells stated that they would. <br /> The vote on the motion to appoint Dennis Wells was taken. Arnold, Bredthauer, Lancaster, <br /> Lanfear, Quandt, Richardson and Schuppan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Stacey will make arrangement to have Mr. Wells sworn in. <br /> 16. DISCUSS AND APPROVE VISITOR IMPROVEMENT FUND GRANT PROGRAM <br /> DISBURSEMENT FOR 2017 -Trish Beem, Mike Swanson and Dianne Willey were present and <br /> Ms. Beem stated that Brad Mellema was unable to be here he is attending a conference. She <br /> read the list of the 2016 grant recipients and there are 3 on going requests <br /> State Fair Foundation — Rodeo Arena 2nd year $ 75,000.00 <br /> AIN Husker Harvest Days 2nd year $ 75,000.00 <br /> GILCA—2nd year $ 50,000.00 <br /> Total 2017 pre-commitments $200,000.00 <br /> 2017 RECOMMENDED REQUESTS <br /> GILCA Fonner Park Equine Storage Building $ 50,000.00 <br /> Crane Trust— bison display $ 15,000.00 <br /> Stuhr Museum —Marketing dollars $ 15,000.00 <br /> 3 <br />
