RESOLUTION#16- b A RESOLUTION TO GUARANTEE EXTRADITION COSTS OF LENCHO ALI WHEREAS,the County Board recognizes that Lencho Ahmed Ali was convicted by a jury of Sexual Assault in the l Degree in Hall County District Court on May 31, 2013 and fled the country to avoid sentencing for his offense; and WHEREAS, law enforcement officers working with the federal government located and apprehended Mr. Ali in Australia; and WHEREAS, local federal government employees assisted the Grand Island Police Department and Hall County Attorney's Office in prosecuting Mr.Ali by opening a domestic police cooperation case prior to trial, thus expending resources to assist in prosecution; and WHEREAS,local federal government employees are assisting in the extradition of Mr. All by making efforts to secure reimbursement of the costs of extradition through a program called Operation Welcome Home; and WHEREAS,Mr.Ali posted a bond in the amount of$20,000 and$18,000 of that bond was forfeited to the Hall County Treasurer on August 8,2013;and WHEREAS,the procedural requirements of obtaining extradition of an international fugitive require the guarantee of payment of extradition costs in advance of the extradition, currently estimated to be$20,000, NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that Hall County will guarantee payment of the costs of extradition of Lencho Ahmed Ali from Australia back to Hall County to be sentenced.
