Chairman Arnold called for break return at 10:32 a.m. <br /> Returned to session at 10:45 a.m. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - Chairman Arnold called for public participation and no one <br /> responded. <br /> 8 UPDATE FROM CONGRESSMAN ADRIAN SMITH —Jared Reimers with Congressman <br /> Adrian Smith's office was present. He stated his role is as community liaison and he is based <br /> out of the Grand Island office. He stated that the office staff does case work for the public. He <br /> does not do case work but meets with individuals, organizations and businesses and takes <br /> ideas and suggestions back to the congressman. <br /> He stated that this is the second half of the 114t congress. Congressman Smith serves on the <br /> Ways and Means committee, the social security subcommittee and the Health Ways and Means <br /> subcommittee. He read a release form Congressman Smith. He asked if the board had any <br /> questions or suggestions. <br /> Lancaster addressed an issue with the Native Blue Water Agent Orange Bill and asked if he <br /> would look at the bill, they are needing support in the house and senate and she also asked why <br /> there were changes at the local veterans' hospital regarding pharmacy prescriptions. <br /> Quandt stated that they will have 162 veterans in Washington D.C. on the next hero flights. <br /> Congressman Smith will also make that tour. <br /> Richardson noted that the county had submitted an application for surplus property for the <br /> federal building and it has been accepted. <br /> 10 DISCUSSION WITH LAURI DETHLOFF REGARDING ANIMAL CONTROL CONTRACT <br /> WITH THE GRAND ISLAND HUMANE SOCIETY— Lauri Dethioff was present regarding the <br /> animal control contract it is outdated and she is hoping the fees can be increased. She <br /> suggested using an animal advisory committee including a veterinarian, representative form the <br /> health department, and law enforcement to address what needs to be considered in a new <br /> contract. She stated the numbers have gone up and it is an asset to the county and community. <br /> It is important to move forward and update the contract. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf stated that Nancy Burse from his office has been working with Lauri. Lancaster <br /> stated the Mr. Schuppan would be a great resource. They provide a good service. Discussion <br /> was held to have the criminal justice committee address this. Lauri stated she has worked with <br /> the Sheriff and appreciates his assistance. She also stated that they need to address issues on <br /> exotic animals because they are seeing more and more of them. They will get a meeting <br /> scheduled. <br /> COUNTY ATTORNEY -County Attorney Jack Zitterkopf stated he did not have any items but <br /> would like to speak on LB 894. <br /> 11:13 a.m. Held a Board of Corrections meeting. <br /> 11:16 a.m. Adjourned the Board of Corrections meeting. <br /> 7.
