Jack Zitterkopf stated he anticipated that he may be the first occupant of the facility and some <br /> work will need to be done so he asked a local architect, Marvin Webb, who is interested in <br /> historical restoration to give him a proposal for his fees. They need to know what can and <br /> cannot be done. <br /> Lancaster noted that it will be more difficult with a historical building and she also reported the <br /> tax credits may be moving forward. Richardson noted that it is good to know about the tax <br /> credits. <br /> Quandt the stated the Courthouse and federal building are part of down town and it is important <br /> to make these viable buildings. <br /> 11. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT FOR <br /> PUBLIC DEFENDER'S OFFICE -The old juvenile diversion part that is being remodeled for the <br /> public defender will be done at the end of the month and Mr. Piccolo is requesting that they <br /> have furniture that is comparable to the county attorney. Kaylene Weller met with Shirley <br /> Schultz from Eakes and they presented the proposal for the new furniture and there is also a <br /> proposal for new phones from BTS. <br /> Quandt asked where the funds would come from for the furniture and asked if this could be next <br /> fiscal year. Stacey Ruzicka expressed concern about seeing claims for furniture coming from <br /> the building and land improvement reserve fund. There is a line item for the renovation of the <br /> public defender's office. Discussion was held. <br /> Arnold stated that the best way to track what the project has cost is to use one line item. <br /> Schuppan asked how much lead time there would be before it is done and it will be about 3 <br /> weeks out. Piccolo stated that this part would be about 1/3 of the proposed $55,000.00 <br /> Lancaster stated the intent is to furnish this office appropriately. <br /> Lancaster made a motion and Quandt seconded to approve all of the $55,000.00 and come <br /> back with more details and to approve the phone system. Discussion was held. <br /> Lancaster amended the motion and Quandt seconded to approve half of the furnishings and the <br /> full cost of the phone proposal. This would come out of the renovations line item. <br /> Discussion was held and Lanfear stated it does not make sense to approve half of the <br /> furnishings and they need to make sure that this is a state bid. It is important to have the <br /> appropriate documentation. Discussion was held to run it through the renovations line item. <br /> Lancaster amended her motion and Quandt seconded to approve all of the furnishing for the <br /> entire project and the phone system with the stipulation that it meets the requirement for a state <br /> bid and authorize the chair to sign. <br /> Mr. Zitterkopf looked at the county purchasing act and it notes a cooperative purchasing <br /> agreement that is established by a group of entities would comply with purchasing. <br /> The vote on the motion to approve the purchase of the furnishings and the phone system was <br /> taken. Arnold, Lancaster, Lanfear, Purdy, Quandt, Richardson and Schuppan all voted yes and <br /> none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 7 <br />
