Ms. DePoorter also noted that there is ample parking north of the businesses and are <br /> considering highlighting some of the parking that is available and they need to educate the <br /> public that there are parking lots available. <br /> Lancaster noted that the Dodge Parking lot has ample parking and the parking lot across from <br /> the Chamber of Commerce is also available. They need information on what the various lots <br /> can be used for. <br /> Richardson asked if the parking ramp is reserved for the Yancey and Arnold stated that the <br /> enclosed part is reserved for the Yancy. <br /> Tom Ziller, President of the Downtown Improvement Business District also expressed support <br /> for acquiring the federal building. They are looking at the parking areas and how it is used. You <br /> do not have to tear down a building for parking. <br /> Lancaster appreciates what they are doing down town and has had calls about tearing down <br /> buildings. She also noted that there are apartments in some of the buildings that have been <br /> renovated. <br /> Mr. Ziller stated that downtown needs congestion and expressed concern if they tear down the <br /> largest structures they lose historical buildings and they want to see them restored. There are <br /> solutions to the parking issues. He appreciates that the county want to keep the government <br /> center downtown. Arnold stated that he had suggested tearing down buildings but has <br /> reconsidered that issue. <br /> Cindy Johnson Director for the Chamber of Commerce stated she applauds the county for <br /> considering the building it is well built and the parking ramp will be an asset and it is available <br /> for public parking. She explained that the parking ramp has gone through several changes and <br /> the city will work with the county on the parking issues. She stated she is excited that the <br /> county has decided to stay downtown. <br /> Quandt stated that they need to thank Bob McFarland because he started this process and he <br /> also thanked Jane for her work. He stated that he has heard concerns about tearing down <br /> buildings. The county needs to work with the city on the parking issues. <br /> Lanfear expressed concern that it is too early to discuss parking. He would like to see some <br /> discussion on how the county is going to use this building. <br /> Lancaster she has received phone calls this is good discussion appreciates that they are here <br /> representing down town Grand Island thanked them for coming <br /> 9:30 A.M. Held a Board of Corrections meeting. <br /> 10:45 a.m. The Chairman adjourned the Board of Corrections meeting and returned to the <br /> regular meeting. <br /> 9. 10:30 PUBLIC HEARING-PROPOSED NEW COUNTY PUBLIC NUDITY ORDINANCE — <br /> Quandt made a motion and Lancaster seconded to open the public hearing. Arnold, Lancaster, <br /> Lanfear, Purdy, Quandt, Richardson and Schuppan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion <br /> carried. <br /> 3 <br />
