The Mayor challenged the placement of the signs and there <br /> was information that the signs were ordered in May of 2012. The sign company did not make a <br /> mistake. The state senators should decide if a name change is made but some may not know <br /> what is going on, By the end of the week we should have the information from the attorneys and <br /> then decide what the next step should be. She stated that she is very proud of the community <br /> because of the heartfelt care for the veterans. This is a leadership opportunity. <br /> Mr. McFarland expressed concem that we could suffer repercussions but we need to stand up <br /> and support the 600 families and the employees. There have been E Mails to the Governor and <br /> Mr. Hilgert and we have not received a reply. <br /> Mr. Schuppan stated that he doesn't disagree but this may not be the time to send the letter we <br /> should have an opinion from the attorneys this week. He is afraid it may cause more problems. <br /> Mr. Quandt stated he received a call from Howard County and he thinks we will see other <br /> counties back us up. It is ourjob to stand up. <br /> Ziola made a motion and McFarland seconded to collectively send a lefter to Governor <br /> Heineman requesting a copy of the purchase order and the work order authorizing the <br /> installation of the sign at the Grand Island Veterans Home. Did the legislature approve the <br /> name change of the home? Arnotd, Lancaster, McFarland, Quandt and Ziola all voted yes and <br /> Purdy and Schuppan voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 9:30 a.m. held a Board of Correction meeting <br /> 10:00 a.m. Adjourned the Board of Corrections meeting and returned to the regular meeting. <br /> 6. 10:00 A.M. PUBLIC HEARING HALL COUNTY BUDGET —Ziola made a motion and Quandt <br /> seconded to open the pubiic hearing. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan <br /> and Ziola all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Chairman Lancaster called for public participation and no one responded. <br /> Arnold noted the amount of time that the County Board spends on ihe budget the board is <br /> involved with the entire process and go over all of the individual budgets. <br /> Ms. Lancaster stated that the board takes a serious look at how the taxpayers' dollars are spent. <br /> Mr. Quandt stated that some of the cuts that the board has made may not be popular. Ne <br /> asked for information from County Assessor Jan Pelland and so far the Ag values have gone up <br /> and industrial valuation has gone down and he expressed concern that this could change. <br /> Mr. Purdy stated that if this would happen it would be over time and it would be a gradual step <br /> down but it would affect the schools more, but they also have state aid. <br /> Chairman lancaster called for public participation and no one responded. <br /> Ziola made a motion and McFarland seconded to close the public hearing.
