9:05 a.m. Held a Board of Equalization meeting <br /> 9:07 a.m. Returned to the regular meeting. <br /> 3 PUBLIC PARTICIPATION —Chairman Lancaster called for public participation and no one <br /> responded. <br /> 10. COUNTY TREASURER APPROVE RESOLUTION TO STRIKE UNPAID 2010 PERSONAL <br /> TAXES AND 2011 ACCELERATED REAL & PERSONAL PROPERTY TAXES AS PER <br /> ATTACHED LIST- This is the regular resolution that is approved annually. Quandt made a <br /> motion and Ziola seconded to approve Resolution#13-069 to strike unpaid 2010 personal taxes <br /> and 2011 accelerate �eal and personal property taxes. Amold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, <br /> Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yeas and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> 11. LETTER TO GOVERNOR HEINEMAN REGARDING SIGNAGE CHANGE AT THE <br /> GRAND ISLAND VETERANS HOME - Mr. Quandt expressed concern on the issue of the sign <br /> that was replaced at the Veterans Home and he thanked Mayor Vavricek for having the sign <br /> changed back to the original sign. He would like to send a letter asking 3 questions regarding <br /> the fact that the order for the sign was placed 14 months ago He stated we owe it to the <br /> veterans and to the taxpayers of Hall County to get the questions answered. He also mentioned <br /> the number of people at the State Fair and the car show at the Veterans Home that asked <br /> questions about the home. <br /> Mr. Schuppan stated that at this point there has been an apology and the sign came down, the <br /> sign company apologized and he would like to wait for the legal opinion. He is concerned that <br /> Hall County may lose something else. He would like the committee to address this issue. <br /> Mr. McFarland stated that he supports sending the letter and he also mentioned the number of <br /> peopie that are upset about the whole process. <br /> Mr. Purdy stated he understands the feelings of the veterans but this should be left up to the <br /> committee. We have county issues a�d have 16 months with the governor. He doesn't support <br /> sending the letter. <br /> Mr. Arnold noted that it seems when we express concerns someone takes a swipe at us. We <br /> will only ga+n exposure with this letter. The state legislature named the home and how can <br /> someone else just change it. We need to communicate with the senators and the committee <br /> needs to address this issue. <br /> Mr. Quandt stated that we are only asking 3 questions instead of using attorneys we are elected <br /> to represent the veterans. <br /> Mr. Schuppan stated he read the questions and understands but we have a lot at stake with the <br /> state. He doesn't have a problem with the legal challenge and asking the legislature. He <br /> doesn't want to keep throwing stones. <br /> Mr Ziola stated this is in his district and he does not have a concem with the questions and it <br /> would be the governor's choice if he answers and if he retaliates he would answer to his <br /> constituents. He supports sending the letter. <br /> Ms. Lancaster stated that she agrees with Gary and Dave and it is how you ask the questions it <br /> 3 <br />
