Present from the Citjrcouncil <br />were Steve Johnson, Todd Kehm, Bob Sorensen, Marilyn :ueth <br />Richard Preisendorf, Glen Murray, and Don Mehring. 'sent'from <br />the. City Council were Larry Seifert, George Solt, and1i,David <br />HOSler. <br />I <br />OPENING REMARKS--MAYOR KEN GNADT, BOARD CHAIR TAMMIE i'TELK: <br />Stelk spoke about the need for cooperation between th City and <br />County on the interlocal agreement which is why the iformational <br />meeting was planned. Gnadt spoke about cooperative e forts with <br />Hall County including the Long-Range Planning Committ~e and <br />thanked those present for attending. I <br />! <br />PRESENTATIONS ON THE SOUTH LOCUST STREET INTERCHANGE ~ROJECT: <br />A. GRAND ISLAND PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR WAYNE BENNETTf-HISTORICAL <br />PERSPECTIVE: Mr. Bennett displayed a chart show ng the <br />history of this project. This project was originally discussed <br />in the 1970's. Mr. Bennett said it's projected that n 2007 <br />there will be four lanes to the South Locust Street i*.terchange. <br />He said the current efforts began in 1987 when DaniellHostler, <br />Hall County Public Works Director, received a verbal I..,ommitment <br />from the Nebraska Department of Roads. The first wri,ten <br />commitment was signed by the City March 24, 1992, and the County <br />signed April 6, 1992. It was then approved by the Neraska <br />Department of Roads and the Federal Highway Commissio. The <br />Environmental Impact Study was started in July 1994 and once this <br />study is completed the new interlocal agreement can b~ signed and <br />the project can proceed. 1 <br /> <br />B. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REPRESENTATIVE DENZEL BUSICK -BENEFITS <br />OF PROJECT, DETAILS OF INTERLOCAL AGREEMENT: Mr~ Busick <br />stated that transportation that brings people bring i~ progress. <br />The new proposed inter local agreement will address th~ concerns <br />of the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Plafte River <br />Whooping Crane Habitat Maintenance Trust. There will be no <br />commercial development in the immediate area but it w 11 be <br />planned development.
