This is for the Murdock Mormon <br />Trail Site near Alda. Quandt made a motion and Hartman seconded <br />to approve Resolution #960003. Abernethy, Hartman, Landis, Leslie, <br />Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />.- <br />RESOLUTION # 1f~~o~~ <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hall County Board of Supervisors desires to <br />encourage the preservation of history in Hall County, Nebraska; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hall County Historical Society has proposed a <br />plan and submitted an application to the Nebraska Department of <br />Roads regarding the purchase and preservation of a 2.4 acre piece <br />of property in Hall County known as the Murdock - Mormon Trail <br />Site; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Murdock - Mormon Trail Site is unique insofar <br />as it is the only known site in Hall County where the ruts and <br />depressions of the Mormon Trail, (a.k.a. the California - . <br />Overland Trail, and the Omaha - Fort Kearny Road) still exist; <br />and . . <br /> <br />WHEREAS, such site was surveyed by the Nebraska State <br />Historical Society in 1991, (Bozell and Ludwickson Report - <br />March, 1991) and found to be historically significant; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hall County Historical Society acted to <br />preserve the site by entering into a purchase agreement with the <br />owner of the site, in which the Hall County Historical Society <br />agreed to pay $24,000 for the 2.4 acre site; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hall County Historical Society, after <br />consideration and debate agreed to borrow $24,000 to finance the <br />purchase of the site, such funds were borrowed and used to close <br />the purchase on October 16, 1995; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Hall County Historical Society is in the <br />process of raising funds. to eliminate the debt it incurred in the <br />purchase of the site, and to raise additional funds for the long- <br />term preservation and interpretation of the site for the general <br />public. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Hall County Board of <br />Supervisors agrees to support and sponsor an application by the <br />Hall County Historical Society that was submitted to the Nebraska <br />Department of Roads on or about June 30, 1995.
