<br />.. <br /> <br />Hartman questioned the letter that was to be sent to the <br />Convention Visitors Bureau. This was to be a letter of non- <br />. renewal with 90 days to negotiate. Landis stated she had two <br />copies of letters in her packet and wanted to verify with Jerry <br />which letter was sent. Hartman stated that there was a motion <br />for non-renewal. This will need to be verified. <br /> <br />tJ1~~oCJ <br /> <br />11:00 a.m. Break <br /> <br />11:10 a.m. Returned to session <br /> <br />11:00 A.M. PUBLIC HEARING ON THE COUNTY BUDGET: Abernethy made a <br />motion and Quandt seconded to open the public hearing on the <br />county budget. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, <br />Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion <br />carried. Chairman Long called for public participation. <br /> <br />priscilla Pecas, Director of CASA, requested to speak to the <br />board concerning the funding for the CASA program. CASA held a <br />board meeting Friday and want to have the funding restored to the <br />$40,000.00 that was originally requested. Paula Pollart, 6317 <br />North Cameron Road, Cairo, also spoke on the CASA request. She <br />stated this program saves money and the $15,000.00 should be <br />restored. Hartman stated this is a tight budget and it would be <br />difficult to take it away from another department. Landis <br />suggested that this is a good program and after 6 months the <br />board could review and if it shows a savingstadditional funds <br />could be transferred by resolution to the CASA line item. <br /> <br />Sheriff Terril Perkins requested to speak to the board. He <br />stated he submitted a 3-year budget and requested some funding <br />for matching grants. He felt there was some confusion on the <br />request for the $20,000. The department would operate but the <br />funds would make it more efficient. Lancaster stated the <br />sheriffs budqet had increased because of the additional man-poweL <br />It was determined that if the matching funds were obtaine~the <br />additional funds could come from the computer fund. Hartman made <br />a motion and Landis seconded to close the public hearing for the <br />county budget. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, <br />Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />Abernethy requested to add $5,000.00 to the CASA budget line item <br />but it was suggested that this could be transferred later if <br />needed. Hartman made a motion and Landis seconded to adopt the <br />county budget. Abernethy suggested that if the mill levy was <br />left the same as last year there would be an additional <br />$27,500.00, Family Violence could be given $2,000.00, Crisis <br />Center $3,000.00 and Stuhr Museum $22,500.00. Quandt asked if <br />the union~ settle for a higher amount what would happen to the <br />rest of the employees. He also stated he did not agree with the <br />way the budget process was handled. Lancaster stated she did not <br />feel there were any preferences for various programs and the <br />constitional offices must be funded. She felt this was a good <br />budget. Hartman made a motion and Stelk seconded to call for the <br />question. Hartman, Lancaster, Landis and Long all voted yes and <br />Abernethy, Quandt and Stelk voted no. Motion carried. The <br />motion to adopt the county budget was made by Hartman and <br />seconded by Landis. Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long and Stelk <br />all voted yes and Abernethy and Quandt voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />NEW AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Chairman Long called for new or <br />unfinished business and there was none. <br /> <br />Meeting adjourned at 12:10 p.m. The next meeting will be <br />Tuesday, September 9, 1997, at 9:00 a.m. <br /> <br /> <br />'rlivvtJ9 ~ <br />Mar a J.
