d-lJ COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING SETPEMBER 22, 1998 .,.//. ./ /_~i~ll County Board of Supervisors met from adjourned session /and by published call in the county board meeting room, 121 South Pine, Grand Island, Nebraska, September 22, 1998, at 9:00 a.m. /---~ ~/ The meeting was called to order by Chairman Richard Hartman. Present on roll call were Irene Abernethy, Richard Hartman, Pamela Lancaster, Margaret Landis, Huey Long, Gary Quandt and Tammie Stelk. Also present were County Attorney Ellen Totzke and news media representatives from the Grand Island Independent and KRGI. MINUTES OF THE SEPTEMBER 8 MEETING: Quandt made a motion and Lancaster seconded to approve the minutes of the September 8 meeting. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. COUNTY ATTORNEY: Lancaster requested that this item be added concerning nude or partially nude entertainment in Hall County. County Attorney Ellen Totzke stated that Jerry Janulewicz recommended that a committee be appointed to address this matter. Landis questioned if it was in the two-mile jurisdiction if Hall County could address this. Lancaster made a motion and Stelk seconded to appoint a committee to address this matter. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. APPOINTMENT OF WEED CONTROL SUPERINTENDENT: The letter of recommendation from the Weed Board was read listing Jack Niemoth, Randy Valasek and Philip Zeller as the top three choices. Discussion was held on the certifications that are necessary for the weed superintendent and if it was necessary to have the certifications before he is appointed. Landis made a motion to appoint Jack Niemoth as the weed superintendent. No second was made, so the motion failed. Quandt requested to address this later until a phone call could be made to the Department of Agriculture. Stelk stated that if the applicants' names were used this discussion should be in executive session. DISCUSSION AND APPOINTMENT TO CVE BOARD: Lancaster stated that a member of the convention and visitors board will be resigning and the County Board will need to make an appointment. She requested that the add be run for the bank of volunteers and once this is done a recommendation will be made for the appointment. Lancaster made a motion and Stelk seconded to run the ad for the bank of volunteers. Abernethy, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, Long, Quandt and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried.
