<br />tj~ f-~/~ 1 <br /> <br />Quandt stated that this is the most controversial issue he has seen and most of the people <br />in his district oppose the prison. He commented on a recent escape from Hutchinson, <br />Kansas prison facility. He will vote against the prison. <br /> <br />Stelk she stated she received phone calls and letters and her district is split on this issue. <br />She stated she cannot support the amendments to the resolutions. <br /> <br />Long he stated that he was involved as deeply as possible and he has heard the pros and <br />cons. He commended both sides for their fortitude, patience and concern. We all live and <br />work here and must build and grow. <br /> <br />Landis stated she also received phone calls and letters. The county board wanted a 60-day <br />stay so the election could be held. She stated that the revised resolutions were better and <br />this will have a financial impact on the community, but we have to live together and get <br />through this. <br /> <br />Hartman stated that he had a lot of calls and if people think this isn't a concern there is a <br />problem. He said he is disappointed in the board changing back and forth and he put the <br />changes for the resolution to save money. <br /> <br />Stelk made a motion and Abernethy seconded to approve the original Resolution #98- <br />0023 to approve the revised Nebraska Department Correctional Services and community <br />agreement for a prison site. Abernethy, Lancaster, Long and Stelk all voted yes and <br />Hartman, Landis and Quandt voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Long made a motion and Stelk seconded to approve Resolution # 98-0024 to <br />authorize the County to proceed with the phase 2 prison site application process. <br />Abernethy, Lancaster, Long and Stelk all voted yes and Hartman, Landis and Quandt <br />voted no. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Lancaster made a motion and Abernethy seconded to approve Resolution #98-0025 to <br />provide the appropriate or acceptable surety for the Nebraska Department of Correctional <br />Services and community agreement for prison site. Abernethy, Lancaster, Long and Stelk <br />all voted yes and Hartman, Landis and Quandt voted no.
