RESOLUTION#013-�� <br /> Resolution pertaining to the Grand Ysland Veteran's Hame <br /> In Grand Island Nebraska <br /> WHEREAS; the Grand Island Veteran's Home was established in 188'1 as a result of Legislative Bill <br /> 247 and the first Civil War Veteran was admitted to the Home on June 28, 1888. <br /> WHEREAS; President Lincoln's second inaugural address included these powerful words, "to care for <br /> hirra who shall have horne the battle and for his wir�ow and hzs orphan"to er�aphasize the obligation <br /> that our nation has to provide for the medical and social needs of our aging Veterans. <br /> WHEREAS; Grand Island has for, rnore than 125 years, been a strong advocate and constant supporter <br /> af our Nation's Veterans as evidenced by the rnany Parades, Community Activities, and Musical <br /> Events presented ta Honor and Respect not only thc Veterans but alsa the Farnilies of Veterans. <br /> WHEREAS; the Grand lsland Veterans Home is located adjacent to the United Veterans Club, a place <br /> where members socialize share good cheer with their fellow veterans and with others from the <br /> community. ' <br /> WHEREAS; the Hall County VEterans' Memorial Park is within walking distance for the mernbers ot <br /> the Grand Island Veterans Home, enabling them to honor and remember those who were lost in times <br /> of war as well as those veterans wha were laid to rest there during peacetime. <br /> WHEREAS; twa af the Nebraska's finest rnedical institutions; the Grand Island VA Medical Center, <br /> and St. Francis Medical Center are both located a short distance frorn the Grand Island Veterans Home, <br /> allowing our veterans to have quick, easy access to emergency medical care and medical services of the <br /> most advanced and highest quality; provided by the dedicated, caring and skilled staff, nurses, <br /> technicians, and doctors of those institutions. <br /> WHEREAS; the Nebraska State Fair, located in Grand Island honors all Veterans by hosting a <br /> Veteran's day at the Fair, which includes a solemn cerernony of recognition for their sacrifice, a <br /> Veterans Parade and free entry to the Fair for the day. <br /> WHEREAS; the citizens of Grand Island and Hall County have donated the land far the existing home, <br /> funded and provided amenities for the Chapel and Wood Shop, devoted many thousands of hours of <br /> Volunteer Service and, additionally, contributed funds, food and other generaus gifts ta the rnembers of <br /> Grand Island Veterans Home over 125 years. <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED; that the Hall County Board of Supervisors, meeting on this <br /> 12tr day of Feba-uary 2013, go on record in support of building a beautiful, modern replacernent <br /> Veterans Home in Grand Island,Nebraska to insure the continued care and comfort of Nebraska <br /> Veterans and eligible family membcrs. <br /> RESOLUTION MOVED BY�-T�i���r� �,� <br /> SECONDED BY o � <br />
