<br />~19990176 <br /> <br />in the court house. Lancaster made a motion and Stelk seconded <br />to authorize the building and grounds department to hire an <br />engineer. Discussion was held on the amount that would have to <br />be paid for an engineer and if it should be limited. Lancaster <br />tabled her motion and Stelk tabled her second to have the <br />building and grounds committee obtain some bids on the cost of <br />an engineer and come back with a rcommendation. <br /> <br />10:00 A.M. BID OPENING FOR CARPET AND TILE PROJECT: Only one bid <br />was received for the carpet for the Administration Building, Road <br />Department and the Clerk of the District Court office. Carpet <br />Plus, Grand Island submitted a total bid of $27,264.00. Stelk <br />made a motion and Lancaster seconded to refer the bid to the <br />building and grounds committee and come back with a <br />recommendation on May 25. Arnold, Hartman, Jeffries, Lancaster, <br />Landis, Logan and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />10:15 A.M. RON BISHOP REGARDING WOOD RIVER DIVERSION PROJECT: <br />Ron Bishop provided the board members with a map of the area that <br />will be affected by the diversion project. He stated that the <br />project has been approved in Washington and will move forward. <br />The map showed the area that will be serviced by the project and <br />the arrea will be removed from the flood plain so that flood <br />insurance will not be required. The current cost estimate is <br />$16,632,000.00 with the federal cost at $9,406,400,000.00 and the <br />non federal costs would be $7,225,600.00. A proposal has been <br />presented to the Army Corps of Engineers that the construction of <br />the bridges would be pulled from the total project and if so <br />Central Platte NRD feels that they could build them for less <br />which would result in a cost savings. Stelk made a motion and <br />Lancaster seconded to sent a thank you letter to the <br />representatives for their help on this project. Arnold, <br />Jeffries, Lancaster, Lanids, Logan and Stelk all voted yes and <br />none voted no and Hartman abstained. Motion carried. <br /> <br />10:30 A.M. WILL BENNETT UPDATE ON COMPUTERS: Will Bennett, <br />computer consultant and Dave Arnold, computer technician updated <br />the board on the computer purchases that will be made. The <br />Windows '98 training classes and 22 employees have attended and <br />31 employees have signed up to attend. The update project on the <br />backbone of the network is about 4 1/2 months behind but they are <br />progressing on it. By purchasing all of the PC hardware at one <br />time they will be albs to save $13,000.00. The funds for these <br />purchases are in the miscellaneous general fund and the equipment <br />and improvement reserve fund.
