9:05 a.m. Held a Board of Equalization meeting. <br /> Returned to the regular meeting 9:10 a.m. <br /> Chairman Lancaster welcomed the veterans and read a statement. <br /> INVOCATION - Invacation was given by Dan Naranjo. <br /> PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE —Veterans Service Officer pon 5huda I�d the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> PROCLAMATION — Don Shuda read the foilowing Resolution proclaiming May 22 to May 315t 2_ <br /> 12 as a memorial salute to World War II Veterans. <br /> McFarland made a motion and Schuppan second�d the motion to approve Resolution #12-027. <br /> Arnold, Lancaster, McF'arland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes and none <br /> voted no. Mation carried. <br /> Don Shuda presented Don Smith with a plaque in recognition of his assistance for the Hero <br /> Flights. Chairman Lancaster thanked the Grand Island Independent for their support. Mr. Smith <br /> thanked the board for the recognition and stated he appreciated the support of the community. <br /> Mr. Shuda presented Mr. Smith with a certificated of appreciation from the Word War II <br /> veterans. <br /> Wayne Hildreth from Central City stated that it was a well coordinated trip and he appreciated <br /> the opportunity to be able ta go. <br /> Meeting was r�cessed to greet the veterans. <br /> 9:40 a.m. Lancaster called the meeting back to order. <br /> 6. UPDATE FROM SENATOR GLOOR-- Lancaster thanked Senator Gloor for coming and <br /> stated the board appreciates his assistance and guidance regarding the inheritance tax issues. <br /> Senator Gloor stated he appreciated the opportunity to be present for the recognition and stated ' <br /> he can remember how unpopular thE military once was, even to the point they were advised to ', <br /> not travel in their uniforms. He stated that they hope to move forward with the new veterans ', <br /> home, the State Department of Veterans Affairs is in agreement that the home needs to b� i <br /> replaced they just need to move forward. <br /> The inheritance tax issue did not come from the legislature it came from the executive branch <br /> and there were several proposals that were brought forward and this was the most contraversial <br /> there was little support for this proposal and the county boards let them know their feelings. <br /> This probably will come back again. <br /> The child welfare reform has been a m�ss and they need to clean up the problems of the <br /> privatization of the foster care. They have a good plan in place and he is optimistic that things <br /> should start getting better. <br /> Regarding the Stuhr Museum funding there is a state statute that if there is a nonprofit historical <br /> society they can have a levy of 3 tenths of 1% and there are some counties that do this but it <br /> has to go to the vate of the people. There is that opportunity but it is a tax increase. <br /> 2 <br />
