Mation carried.
Dianne McKaski and Theresa Engelhardt with Senior Citizens were present. They explained
that there are only two additional sources af incame that they receive and that is for th bus far
and the cab ticket sales and in order to keep the local match down they were forced to increase
the fares fram $4.p0 to $4.50 for the cab tickets and fram $2.00 to $2.50 for the bus tickets.
Thy reviewed the budget and stated that they were advised by the State of Nebraska to budget
gas at $4.25 a gallon for the coming year. The maintenance for the buses has been high. If the
fares were not increased they would have to add an additional $14,QOp.pQ ta the budget and the
county match would have increased
Quandt qustioned if the increase wauld be hardship? Ms McKaski stated that it may but they
had to make the decision to increase the fares in arder to maintain the same service.
Bob Lowenstein, Senior Citizen board member stated that they are consciaus of the increase in
the cost af the tickets but there was no other option except to increase the fares to keep the
same service.
Lancaster stated that she is the liaison and advised them to maintain the budget the same as.
last year. If the fares were not increased it wauld add another $14,00.00 to the Senior Citizen
budget, but by increasing the fares it would allow additional funding for gas and maintenance. It
would be up to the caunty board if they wanted to increase the budget.
Discussion was held McFarland suggested increasing the budget by $5,0OO.OQ and then in
addition to this increase there wauld be the federal match and it would alsa increase.
Purdy questioned if they receiv a federal tax refund and Ms. McKoski stated that they do
receive the refund and that is figured in the budget as income. Lancaster stated that MAAA
pooled all of the counties so they receive a bigger fuel tax refund then the refund dallars are
sent aut to the counties.
Ms. Engelhardt stated that even with the fare increase it is still a reasonable cost. They are alsa
scheduling the busses on the hour so they will have more passengers on the buses.
Schuppan noted the price of gas and that may hurt but we need to take care of the people that
need to use the buses. Ms. McKoski stated that the fares were increased last year y $.5p and
they are alsa gtting a van to use for the aut of town runs.
