"

Press Release

Date: December 1 st, 2006
Contact person/agency: Sgt. Rich McKinny, Hall County Sheriff's Office
(308) 385-5200
RE: Recent area compliance checks.

On November 30th between the hours of 6:00 PM. and 9:30 PM. compliance
checks were conducted on 64 local area businesses that sell alcoholic
beverages. Four teams made up of members from the Grand Island Police
Department, Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State Patrol
teamed up for the special enforcement. Of the 64 businesses checked, only 1
was found in violation for selling alcohol to a minor. The Las VeGOs Bar and
Grill. 316 E.2nd Street was the only vendor who sold to a minor.
Identification of any type was not requested before the sale. The individual
who sold the alcohol was jailed after failing to provide any form of
identification.

We are extremely proud of the 63 businesses who are obviously taking the
issue of underage drinking very seriously. Local businesses are to be
commended for their efforts.

Compliance checks are used by law enforcement agencies across the country.
If conducted on a regular basis, they are a good barometer of the measure of
a community's progress on reducing alcohol sales to minors. Local law
enforcement will continue our commitment to perform these checks regularly.
