<br />Press Release <br /> <br />On July 17 2020 at about 3:45 PM, a Grand Island Police Officer was following up on a reported <br />misdemeanor assault of a clerk, which occurred at a Pump and Pantry store in Grand Island. The officer <br />contacted the person who was a suspect in that assault, at 118 South Vine Street, in Grand Island. Upon <br />contact that suspect retreated into a room further back into the apartment. The subject reappeared <br />and fired at least two rounds at the officer. The officer returned fire. Neither the officer nor the subject <br />were hit by the gunfire. <br /> <br />The officer retreated, established a perimeter, and units of the Grand Island Police Department and the <br />Hall County Sheriff's Office responded and reinforced the perimeter. <br /> <br />The Grand Island Police Department Tactical Response Team responded, and the suspect, Tejani <br />Abdalla, came out of the apartment, surrendered, and was taken into custody without incident. <br /> <br />A second subject was in the apartment; he too came out and was taken into custody, questioned and <br />determined to have no involvement in any crime and was released. <br /> <br />Tejani A. Abdalla, age 32, a native of Sudan is lodged at the Hall County Jail on the following charges: <br /> <br />1) Criminal Attempt Second Degree Murder <br /> <br />2) Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony (both of those charges are felonies) <br /> <br />And 3) Third Degree Assault which is a misdemeanor. <br /> <br />The Hall County Sheriff's Office assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol conducted an investigation at the <br />scene of the shooting, and that investigation is ongoing. <br /> <br />Frank Bergmark, sergeant Hall County Sheriff's Office <br /> <br />
