Media Release
4-18-16

The Hall County Sheriff Department was dispatched to a three vehicle
accident on April 17, 2016 at approximately 10:13pm. The accident occurred ¼
mile east of Monitor Road on Hwy 30.
Preliminary Investigation reveals that a 1988 Chevrolet pickup being
operated by Joseph Soto DOB: 12-28-64 of Alda Nebraska was east bound on Hwy
30 when it crossed the center line. Soto then struck a west bound 2000 Ford
Focus being operated by Samantha Lyons DOB: 8-26-98 of Shelton Nebraska.
Soto’s vehicle continued east bound striking a 1996 Honda Accord being operated
by Baily Miller DOB: 4-23-99 of Wood River Nebraska which was west bound.
Lyons had to be extricated from her vehicle. Both Lyons and Miller were
wearing restraints and were transported to St. Francis Hospital. Soto was ejected
from his vehicle and transported to St. Francis Hospital where he later died from
his injuries. It is suspected that Soto was consuming alcohol prior to the accident.
The Nebraska State Patrol is completing the accident reconstruction. The
Grand Island Fire Department and Grand Island Rural Fire Department assisted at
the scene. Hwy 30 was closed for a short time while the accident was
investigated.
