R®mediation of explosives-aontaminated soil associated with
219.985 acres of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene load Line 4 has occarrred during muifiple remediation projects in
land (2.4.6-TNT), 1987-BB, 1994, and 2U05-2007. All contaminated soil that was
cyclotetramethylene- determined to exceed industrial risk so€f remediatinn levels has
tetranitramine been removed from former Load Line 4.
(~~), '
hexahydra-1,3,5- In 1987-68, explasives~ontaminated snit was removed from the
trinitro-1,3,5-triazine lead lines, inanerated, and the resulting ash disposed in trenches
(RDX), at another location an GtiAAP as part of an (nstaltatron
2,4dinitro~iuene Resforation Inclneratian Program (iRiP) on-site CERCLA
1,3,5-trinitrabenzene soil at Load Line 4. The RDD atsa determined that nv additional
2,6-diniirotoluene and limited soil screening far explosives was conducted at Load
(4-Am-2,8-DNT), Line 4.
and nitrobenzene (R)
During tyre July 2005 through 2006 time frame, work was
performed to disassemble, decontaminate and demolish Load
Line 4 buildings; rer»ave concrete floor slabs; sample the sa11
under former concrete slab locations to confirm that the locations
did riot contain greater than 10% explosives; and to exoava#e and
remove sanitary and industrial sewer tines that were close to
building foundations, fallavved by Irmited soil screening far
explosives at the greater than 10°!° level beneath former sewer
locations.
'The goal of at[ of the above--identified actions from 2005 to 2006
was to obtain 5X certificatron for the load fine areas in
ac~rdance with U.S. Army Pamphlet IOCP 365-1 Ctass~cation
and Remediadnn of Explosive Contamination. The 5X
designation indicates that no significant amounts (defined as not
enough to present an explosive safety hazard) of contamination
remain. At the 5X level, the property does not pose an explosive
safety hazard and is considered safe for sale to the general
public.
