ARR
John Collins
Public Works Director
100 E. First Street
Grand Island, NE 68801
Dear John,
■
•
•
20220364"J
RAILSIDE
EXHIBIT "A" 2022/5/17
It's been said art has the power to transform, illuminate, educate, inspire and motivate. If that's true,
the power that ten original sculptures would bring to downtown Grand Island will be amazing. The
sculptures will be displayed year-round in various locations throughout the district, all within walking
distance, and will allow visitors to enjoy art, history, and culture.
This letter and the following documents specify the locations, stone bases and the sculptures that have
been selected for the inaugural Sculpture Walk in Railside. We would like to apply for a license
agreement for these locations the sculptures selected for the locations. The sculptures will be in place
for one year and in May of 2023 the sculptures will be replaced with new sculptures annually
thereafter.
The sidewalk usage section of the RBID's Design Guidelines were used as a reference when determining
the best location for each sculpture. In the future when additional sculptures and locations are added,
they will also be placed in the Furnishing Zone or the Frontage Zone as noted in the Design Guidelines
so not to interfere with pedestrian traffic or in violation of ADA requirements. It is my understanding
that each of these additional locations will also need license agreements when that time comes.
It should be noted that the stone bases weigh 156 pounds per cubic foot, making a 48" x 48" stone base
will weigh approximately 1456 pounds. There will also be a 1/4" steel plate that will be anchored to the
top of the stone. This will enable the sculptures to be welded to the steel plate that is attached to each
of the sculptures. Also, the stone base sizes that are listed are only approximations. The final stone
piece will be 3-5" smaller or larger and will end up being slightly irregular. The steel plate will be cut to
fit the irregular shape while leaving a 1-1/2" stone border exposed around the perimeter.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
With warm regards,
Thomas Ziller
,„,
Railside BID Design Chair
