They are applying for a community development block <br />grant. Cindy Johnson and Jerry Garroute with the City of Grand Island are assisting and <br />will co-sponsor the Historical Society for T21 grant for the restoration of the Burlington <br />Depot. This will supplement the previous grant for the depot. It is a tourism grant and <br />the depot project may qualify for it. Mr. Amick is requesting that the county board send a <br />letter of support for the grant application, This item is not on agenda so it will be added <br />to the October 24th agenda. <br /> <br />Louise Miller 1104 West Charles questioned the board last year if taxpayers must pay <br />for interpreters and court appointed attorneys for illegal immigrants. INS pays $50.00 a <br />day to Hall County and now Hall County is paying $60.00 a day to house the inmates in <br />Lincoln. She stated that INS must not do their job and they should send the immigrants <br />back as soon as possible. Landis stated that Hall County does receive funds from the <br />U.S. Marshall Service for housing inmates. Arnold stated that the Constitution of the <br />United States protects everyone. Logan stated that the corrections department does a <br />good job checking for contraband and they did a good job controlling the criminal <br />behavior in the jail. The inmates will be prosecuted for the damage they did to the jail. <br />
