~ 00-0053

t: 20000205.

Hall County's ADA 10th Anniversary
Celebration Proclamation

~.

Whereas, In 1990, Nebraska's entire congressional delegation proudly voted for passage of
the American's With Disabilities Act to better secure the civil rights of one of America's
most vulnerable and formerly unprotected class of citizens; and

Whereas, Residents of Hall County with disabilities of all ages are better able to remain and
participate more fully in their communities because of the ADA's mandate to provide "the
more integrated setting appropriate to the needs of the individual"; and

Whereas, Residents of Hall County with disabilities have greater access to employment,
education, and community goods and services with the reduction of architectural and
attitudinal barriers resulting from the implementation of the ADA; and

Whereas, The possibility of experiencing disability increases for all of us, and

Whereas, While great strides have been made in protecting the rights of residents of Hall
County with disabilities, the promise of the ADA has not yet been fully realized and a re-
commitment by both government and the private sector to comply with ADA principles and
standards is necessary; and

Whereas, July of2000 is the 10th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, as well
as the month in which this Great Nation celebrates the freedom and the civil rights that are to
be accorded to ALL ITS CITIZENS,

NOW, THEREFORE, I RICHARD HARTMAN, CHAIRMAN OF THE
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FOR HALL COUNTY, DO HEREBY
PROCLAIM JULY 2000 AS AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
MONTHFORHALLCOUNT~

I call upon all people of Hall County to increase their awareness of and sensitivity to the
needs of persons with disabilities, as reflected in attitudes, laws, regulations, and ordinances.
I call upon the business community of Hall County to renew efforts in hiring qualified
persons with disabilities because it is a sound business investment. In order to show the
pride we have in our communities in the things we have done and intend to do for increasing
accessibility for residents of Hall County with disabilities, I call upon all citizens of Hall
County to join together in statewide community-based celebrations of the 10m Anniversary of
the ADA on July 26th, 2000.
