<br />'F20000058 <br /> <br />HALL COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING FEBRUARY 8, 2000 <br /> <br />The Hall County Board of Supervisors met from adjourned session and by published call <br />in the county board meeting room, 121 South Pine, Grand Island, Nebraska, February 8, <br />2000 at 9:00 a.m. <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chairman Richard Hartman. <br /> <br />Invocation was given by Rev. John Hayes with Grace Baptist Church. <br /> <br />The Pledge of Allegiance was given in unison. <br /> <br />Present on roll call were Scott Arnold, Richard Hartman, Pamela Lancaster, Margaret <br />Landis, Lonnie Logan and Tammie Stelk. Bud Jeffries was absent. Also present were <br />Deputy County Attorney Jerry Janulewicz and news media representatives from the <br />Grand Island Independent and KRGI. <br /> <br />MINUTES OF JANUARY 25 MEETING: Logan made a motion and Stelk seconded to <br />accept and place on file the minutes of the January 25 meeting. Arnold, Hartman, <br />Lancaster, Landis, Logan and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no with Jeffries absent. . <br />Motion carried. <br /> <br />1a. ROGER CLARK APPROVE RESOLUTION FO RE-ESTABLISHIMENT OF RAIL <br />PASSENGER SERVICE THROUGH HALL COUNTY: Mr. Clark was able to attend <br />but Steve Snook presented the resolution for support of the rail passenger service. <br />Amtrak is now able to carry express items and they are looking at routes using the Union <br />Pacific mail lines. This route will make stops in -Omaha, Fremont, Grand Island, <br />Kearney, North Platte and Sidney. They would like the county board to support this <br />project. Stelk made a motion and Lancaster seconded to approve Resolution #00 - 0014 <br />to support the Amtrak daily passenger rail service. Arnold, Hartman, Lancaster, Landis, <br />Logan and Stelk all voted yes and none voted no with Jeffries absent. Motion carried. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION #00- 00 I 4- <br /> <br />WHEREAS, transportation connections between Hall County and other communities in <br />Nebraska, the Midwest and throughout the U.S. are important to the economic vitality and <br />livability of both the Hall County region and other linked communities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, rail transportation has been a critical and important component of our <br />regional transportation system for over a century; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the train is an environmentally friendly, comfortable way to travel and an <br />efficient, effective way to transport goods; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, passenger rail service increases safety and peace of mind for travelers in the <br />winter months, especially when traveling through areas of extreme climatic conditions in <br />Nebraska and the Great Plains; and <br />
