<br />(20020278 <br /> <br />12 DISCUSS AND TAKE ACTION ON RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY AS SENIOR <br />CITIZEN MONTH AND MAY 12 - 18 TO BE SENIOR CENTER WEEK. Chairman <br />Lancaster asked Lois Steinke with the Senior Citizens Center if she would like to speak. <br />Lois thanked the county board for their support. She stated that the older adult <br />population is growing and they want to be ready for future services. They are now in the <br />process of expanding the center and are hoping to have a successful capital <br />improvement campaign. They are working to implement programs in mental health for <br />the center. Lancaster stated that the kitchen at the center prepares all of the home <br />delivered meals and they are in desperate need of more space. With the additional <br />programs they are in need of more meeting space and additional offices. Some of the <br />people are located in the annex building and they would like to bring them back into the <br />same building. Lois stated that they would also like to increase the access to the <br />computers for the senior citizens. Lonnie Logan stated that he would assist with <br />computer training classes for the center. <br /> <br />Jeffries made a motion and Hartman seconded to approve proclamation #02-0035 <br />proclaiming Mayas senior citizens month. Arnold, Eriksen, Hartman, Humiston, Jeffries, <br />Lancaster and Logan all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY AS SENIOR CITIZENS MONTH <br />IN HALL COUNTY AND MAY 12-18, 2002 TO BE SENIOR CENTER WEEK <br /> <br />RESOLUTION # ro- -0 ~ 35 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, nearly 38% of Hall County's population is over 60 years old; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, being active and involved in a supportive environment is crucial to the <br />independence and well being of older adults; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, studies show that older adults prefer to remain in their own homes over <br />institutional living; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Senior Center offers home-delivered IIlt:als, hom~makerfhandyman, social <br />activities, center meals five days a week, limited health promotion, county wide transportation, care <br />advocacy services, and legal assistance; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Senior Center provides needed opportunities for older adults in our community <br />by providing a nurturing environment, community involvement, a healthy lifestyle, and adult day care; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Senior Citizens are extremely important, valuable members of our community. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Hall County Board of Supervisors that we <br />hereby proclaim Mayas Senior Citizens Month in Hall County and May 12-18, 2002 to be Senior <br />Center Week and that we call upon our citizens to observe the month with appropriate programs and <br />activities. <br /> <br />3 <br />
