two parcels, three improvements which total value tax values around 5 million 359
thousand as of 2024, and with those and the thing is I when we put these subdivisions
in, we put the paperwork in and went to the register of deeds, filed our ordinance except
for maybe one which we're still looking for. and it was never put on our tax roll even
though our city limits expanded. I kept watching that, worked with Chad Nabity, kept
looking at C limits. Hey, we got Dollar General in and this and that, and it's like, what the
heck? Why isn't this being taxed? Cuz our tax district is 85. I went to the county
assessor and presented my questions about why this wasn't put into our tax district.
Mrs. Wold and Mandy looked at it and said the County Register of Deeds does not
communicate with the Assessor, and I thought that was kind of interesting because
they're the same person. Greg stated he is working with multiple lawyers, he had some
emails back from September with County Assessor but never went anywhere. I just
want to get this correct, what can we do to get this in and get our money?
County Assessor Kristi Wold stated the register of deeds office was never giving
annexations to the assessor's office ever. That has been corrected, but we had gone
back and corrected those there, if you look through the tax corrections, there had been
a number of tax corrections correcting that, so the City is getting their money, it went
back a number of years to correct those she stated.
Quandt questioned how many years it went back to correct them
Kristi stated she thought 3 years as per state statue. Kristi stated the annexes were
never coming over because 2016 was before my time, but that has been corrected
between the offices. Also the secretary in Wood River, I believe that's who
communicate with pretty regular email back and forth and then now we've set up a
system also in the assessor's office to check and boundaries and also when my office
staff is processing new subdivisions to make sure those are going in the correct taxing
district as well, we have set up checks and balances to make sure that doesn't happen.
Lancaster asked so they did get all their back taxes. Asking Greg if he felt they did get
them all back?
Greg stated he was never notified of that. I was told they would correct in January.
Kristi stated normally the mayor wouldn't be notified that the taxpayer would have to pay
the correct taxes. The treasurer's office would do whatever they do sorry I don't know on
their side to collect and distribute the correct taxes.
Greg asked, so are we getting the 136,000 back or we just corrected for 2025?
Krist stated that Mandy made corrections for 2025, 2024, 2023
Greg stated that some of those are back from 2016
