6 PUBLIC WORKS-9:30A.M. BID OPENING FOR ASPHALT OVERLAY <br /> PROJECT C40 (565) & REFER BIDS TO PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT- <br /> Sorensen made a motion to open bids, Quandt seconded the motion. <br /> Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Peterson, Quandt, Richardson and Sorensen all <br /> voted yes, none voted no. Motion carried <br /> Shanda Conley Deputy County Clerk opened the bids and read them into record. <br /> Gary Smith Construction GI $668,175.64 <br /> Werner Construction GI $536,729.30 <br /> JIL Asphalt GI $690,856.62 <br /> Sorensen made a motion to refer bids to Don Robb public works director, <br /> Richardson seconded the motion. <br /> Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Peterson, Quandt, Richardson and Sorensen all <br /> voted yes, none voted no. Motion carried <br /> Don Robb stated after looking at bids they wanted to Award Werner Construction <br /> the bid. <br /> Sorensen made a motion to accept the bid from Werner Construction <br /> Bredthauer seconded the motion. Bredthauer, Hurst, Lancaster, Peterson, <br /> Quandt, Richardson and Sorensen all voted yes, none voted no. Motion carried <br /> 14 DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING INTERNSHIP FOR <br /> SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT-Sheriff Deputy Josh Berlie stated for next budget <br /> year 2026-2027 he was looking at a potential paid internship program, that is <br /> kind of unique to law enforcement. Berlie stated in the past they would do ride a <br /> long for countless hours and not really serve the department that they are doing <br /> the internship for, they would just gain some basic knowledge, he stated this <br /> would be a little bit different he stated if he is going to pay somebody he wanted <br /> to receive some work from them. The sheriff's department having patrol support <br /> and transport he would look into putting the internship into that roll. They would <br /> go through the whole background check and process they normally would do <br /> before hiring as patrol support. Be hired as a temp employee until their specific <br /> project is complete and how many hours, they have to pull forward to get the <br /> college credits for that internship. Interns would be working as patrol support so <br /> gun carrying positions and receive more hands-on training. Looking at working <br /> with Wayne State College and being like $20.00 hour position, budget numbers <br />
