Sorensen was excused from the meeting. Motion carried. <br /> 9:05 a.m. Held a Board of Equalization meeting <br /> 9:24 a.m. Adjourned the Board of Equalization meeting. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION — Chair Peterson called for public participation. <br /> Representatives from the Mision Christina Amor y fe Church 1022 West 6th Street were <br /> present she stated that they were tax exempt now they are not. She has to fill out 3 <br /> forms because there was also a parking lot and she was not aware that it had changed. <br /> Deputy County Attorney Sarah Carstensen she has been working on some of these but <br /> has not been able to talk to them. It has to be determined what the use of the parking <br /> lots if it is just for parking for the church or Sunday school events. It has to be described <br /> on the form what it is used for. The property tax division requires that every 4 years the <br /> long forms have to be filled out and in the other years just the short forms. They are to <br /> file before December 31 and have until June to file the forms. This is the second year <br /> that forms have not been sent out. She said she will look at this and do some research. <br /> 4.9:30 A.M. PRESENTATION REGARDING THE SPORTS COMPLEX BY JOHNNY DORN - <br /> Lancaster sated she was aware of this project through CVB and the partnership with Pinnacle <br /> Bank John Dorn is the here to give some background and what they are doing. He distributed <br /> information to the board. John is the lead on this project and is working as owner's <br /> representative. Jeff Wieck is a youth sport consultant out of Omaha to assist and is here to <br /> discuss LB 39 regarding turn back of sales tax. They started this 2 years ago there are multiple <br /> families that spend dollars going to bigger metropolitan areas to compete in athletics. They did <br /> a feasibility study there is an opportunity here for this sports complex. <br /> • Provides a much need local facility and training for competitive athletes <br /> • Increases tourism dollars by giving Grand Island the capacity to host large <br /> regional tournaments <br /> • Creates revenue to develop programming for underprivileged youth in sports <br /> • He reviewed the economy of youth sports <br /> • By 2026 youth sports tourism market is expected to reach $103 billion <br /> • This is a $25 to $35 million project <br /> • This also services the surrounding communities <br /> 3 <br />
