IT UPDATE WINDOWS 10 CONVERSION - Mr. Peterson stated he put this on the agenda
the committee met and discussed options on the work stations and the Windows 10 program.
The support is going away on the Windows 7 and they discussed how best to move the current
workstations to Windows 10 program. This would involve purchasing licenses and installing
them on the work stations or to purchase new work stations. That option would be a
considerable cost but it would have to be installed on the current work stations. Some of those
stations are aging out and would need to be replaced by a Windows 10 work station. It would
be a higher cost to replace the work stations but there is some concern that the Windows 10
may not work on the current stations.
Windows 10 will release it and then support it for 18 months and then load another conversion.
There is Windows 10 Business and Windows 10 Enterprise but those 2 have a lot of extra
programs that would need to be removed and it would take time to install and remove those
programs. And once there was an update you would have to remove them again
Lancaster questioned if this could be done over a 2 year period. Mr. Drudik stated if you
purchased 400 work stations it would take time to install them. He would prefer a staggered
installation. Every time there is a change they are not on the leading edge they wait until there
is proof the various applications work. They have to be careful what they update. With the
Microsoft select agreement there are 4 resellers in the state of Nebraska they have a select
agreement with one of the retailers and the price is set.
2
