This <br /> would make it the highest excise tax in the nation. It would make it difficult for a business to turn <br /> a profit. These businesses are an economic boost to downtown Grand Island. People go to <br /> Kinkaiders and Prairie Pride. His wife owns the Chocolate Bare and people move her to work at <br /> the Chocolate Bar. He is asking the board to send a letter opposing the legislation. <br /> Lancaster thanked them for coming and stated if the board agrees they will send a letter. <br /> Quandt questioned why they would go from $.38 to $1.3? Amos stated that it is easy to go after <br /> alcohol and tobacco. <br /> Cody Schmick 8720 Fremont Street Lincoln Kinkaider Brewing Company started company 4 <br /> years ago has 65 employees location in Broken Bow and then location in Grand Island also a <br /> location in Lincoln and looking at a location in Omaha. The economic growing is huge. They <br /> war working on a study Nebraska has the highest taxes and are the highest regulated. This bill <br /> would make it the highest in the country. If this was in place it they would have to pay $100,000 <br /> in taxes it would be a 330% increase. They want to grow and this would stop economic growth. <br /> The governor is also addressing this issue. They are asking the board as a group to write a <br /> letter opposing LB 314 and LB 497. <br /> 25. Hartman made a motion and Bredthauer seconded to send a letter opposing these bills <br /> Cody stated he would be able to give Pam some information. She will make a draft letter and <br /> send it to the board members. Lancaster will sign the letter. Bredthauer, Hartman, Hurst, <br /> Lancaster, Peterson, Quandt and Richardson all voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> Quandt ask if there would be any others that could join in on this. He suggested the Chamber <br /> of Commerce and City Council. Quandt suggested sending it to the governor and all of the <br /> senators. <br /> 5a.
