We have been operating in HALL County since the mid 1930's. Our companies are assessed a
substantial amount of taxes both on the real estate assets as well as on the personal property and have
consistently met all assessed taxes due and have never been in a state of violation or default by not
paying our assessed taxes.
Several of you have held the very elected positions you hold today when I have attended meeting to
object to burdensome and often destructive taxes such as the death tax, inheritance tax, etc. The position
that the county has consistently held in these matters is the importance they play in the Counties ability
to be able to meet the future expenses and obligations held by the County. Recently, there has been a
news article printed in the Grand Island Independent on this very subject, expressing concern for the
Counties ability to meet the anticipated $1.74 Million increase in the personnel costs. The majority of the
anticipated costs being unavoidable costs such as required increases to pay and pensions obligations.
The matter now before the Commission is a request submitted by the Platte River Whooping Crane Trust
to be granted tax exempt status on the remaining land and assets which the Trust owns at it's facilities
located in HALL County.
Granting this exemption will place an additional undue burden upon the entirety of the remaining
residents and businesses located within HALL County. Therefore, I feel this request should be denied in
it's entirety.
Any other action will cause me to pursue the same using the internships we offer on a regular basis as
justification for the exemption.
Thank you,
Greg Baxter
T&E Cattle Company
4444 W. 13th Street
Grand Island, NE. 68803
Off.- (308) 384-1981 ext.4
Cel. - (308) 390-2333 (BEEF)
1
