HALL COUNTY BOARD OF EQUALIZATION MEETING JANUARY 14, 2014 <br /> 9:05 a.m. Quandt made a motion and Ziola seconded to go into a Board of Equalization <br /> meeting. <br /> ROLL CALL VOTE — Present on roll call vote were Scott Arnold, Pamela Lancaster, Bob <br /> McFarland, Daniel Purdy, Gary Quandt, Steve Schuppan and David Ziola. Also present were <br /> Deputy County Attorney Jack Zitterkopf, Board Assistant Stacey Ruzicka and County Treasurer <br /> Peg Pesek and County Assessor Jan Pelland. <br /> NOTICE OF OPEN MEETING LAW— Chairman McFarland read the notice of the open meeting <br /> law. <br /> MINUTES— Lancaster made a motion and Ziola seconded to approve the minutes of the <br /> December 17th meeting. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all <br /> voted yes and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> PUBLIC PARTICIPATION - Chairman McFarland called for public participation and no one <br /> responded. <br /> COUNTY TREASURER -APPROVE THE 2014 MOTOR VEHICLE TAX EXEMPTIONS <br /> County Treasurer presented the 2014 motor vehicle exemption application. She stated <br /> that there are 53 applications and she has approved them per Nebraska State Statute <br /> 77-202 and is requesting the County Board to approve. The board members reviewed <br /> the list. Mr. Quandt questioned how many applications were received and Ms. Pesek <br /> sated she has 53 and they had 52 last year. <br /> Quandt made a motion and Ziola seconded to approve the 2014 exemption <br /> applications. Arnold, Lancaster, McFarland, Purdy, Quandt, Schuppan and Ziola all voted yes <br /> and none voted no. Motion carried. <br /> APPROVE EXEMPTION APPLICATION FOR ORPHAN GRAIN TRAIN FOR A 1985 <br /> KING OF THE ROAD MOTOR HOME — Ms. Pesek stated that she is requesting to pull <br /> this application she stated she talked to Mr. Purdy and reviewed the information and <br /> there is not a plate class for a motor home to be tax exempt. She is going to disapprove <br /> this application. Discussion was held that buses are tax exempt. <br /> Ms. Pesek stated that she had received complaints from customers regarding tax <br /> exempt vehicles that are not being used for approved exempt purposes. She provided <br /> the board members with a copy of a letter addressing this issue and is requesting the <br /> board of equalization to approve it. This item is not on the agenda so it cannot be <br /> approved. It can be put on the agenda for consideration at the next meeting. Mr. <br /> Arnold stated that as the elected official she could distribute the letter but Ms. Pesek <br /> stated that the County Board of Equalization approved the exemption application. Mr. <br /> Ziola questioned asked if this wording could be selective and Mr. Zitterkopf stated that <br /> was a good point and he will review the letter and come back to the board. <br /> COUNTY ASSESSOR— County Assessor Jan Pelland introduce Barb Stoddard and <br />
