DEPUTY COUNTY ATTORNEY I <br /> NATURE OF WORK <br /> This is a beginning level professional legal work as an attorney on the County Attorney's legal <br /> staff preparatory to assuming the more independent duties of an Attorney II. <br /> Work involves performing professional legal work with some supervision initially by more <br /> experienced attorneys. The major emphasis of the duties of this class may include preparation of <br /> criminal and civil cases for trial in courts of original jurisdiction; trying cases with some <br /> supervision; and assisting in the preparation and presentation of felony criminal cases in district <br /> and appellate courts. Work of employees in this class is subject to more supervision than that of <br /> an Attorney II; less independence is allowed in the conduct of trial work' and the nature of the <br /> work less difficult and demanding. An employee in this class receives supervision in the form of <br /> trial support and consultation from an attorney of higher level who evaluates work in terms of the <br /> effectiveness of the preparation and/or presentation of cases and the soundness of legal opinions. <br /> EXAMPLES OF WORK <br /> Prepares brief for presentation to court in suites involving the County. <br /> Performing coroner duties as directed and being `on-call' 24 hours a day for a one week period <br /> as part of the regular on-call rotation in the County Attorney's office. <br /> Prepares and prosecutes misdemeanor and felony cases with some supervision and assists others <br /> in doing so. <br /> Prepares and prosecutes all types of juvenile cases. <br /> Consults with and reviews work on preparation of cases with more experiences attorneys in order <br /> to learn departmental practices and procedures. <br /> Interviews clients,their families, expert witnesses and others. <br /> Prepares legal opinions, memoranda and data for other attorneys in order to learn departmental <br /> practices and procedures. <br /> Assists other attorneys in preparation for the prosecution of felony criminal cases and appellate <br /> court. <br /> Researches the law and writes memorandums and briefs for presentation in juvenile and <br /> misdemeanor cases. <br />
